Carers Programme for people with mild to moderate dementia and their carer
The Letchworth Centre for Healthy Living, in partnership with Crossroads Care, plan to run a subsidised pilot programme consisting of four simultaneous 8-week programmes, with a choice of 2 sessions for the carer and two for the person who is cared for - who will be in a nearby room at our Centre supervised by qualified Crossroads Care support workers. The approaches are well-known for their general health benefits and their calming and de-stressing effects. They are suitable for people of all ages and levels of fitness, and will be followed by an opportunity to socialise with other carers over tea and biscuits. The programme offers:
The Carer:
Moving Mindfully (a combination of T'ai Chi with Alexander Technique and gentle movement)
or
Gentle Yoga (gentle posture and breath work which can enhance vitality and promote relaxation)
The person who is cared for:
Singing for Pleasure
or
Seated Yoga (gentle exercise with breath work)
and/or
Quiet time spent with a qualified Crossroads Care support worker
