Workshops and Retreats

Workshops – whether ½ or full day – offer an introduction to a subject or serve as a means of deepening one’s skills and knowledge without the commitment required by a weekly class.  Along with retreats, they can provide oases of peace within the framework of our busy and frequently pressured lives.  We hope many of you will join us on these very special journeys of discovery.

Please note that bookings and payments for all workshops and retreats must be made by 1pm on the Friday before the workshop or retreat.

Children’s Holiday Class

Thursday 30 May 09.30-12.00 Holiday YogiMe with Lydia Challis Radiant Child Yoga 1 & 2.  This extended holiday YogiMe session for kids aged 5-11 yrs will incorporate all of the favourite elements of storytelling, song and yoga moves with some fun games and crafts. Cost: £20

Laughter Yoga

Saturday 8 June 10.00-13.00 Same You Fresh Start with Gerry Strohm Life Coach and Laughter Yoga Leader. Using a combination of Laughter Yoga Training and Life Coaching skills, Gerry will teach you how to identify the areas of your life which are out of sync or which need attention, how to prioritise, how to set achievable goals, how to have fun switching on happiness– and how to maintain this throughout the year!  Cost: £25 includes refreshments

Dance

Saturday 8 June 14.30-17.30 Five Rhythms – Summer Waves Workshop with Ruth Hirst Accredited 5Rhythms Teacher. We are all born movers. How often do you hear some music, and before you know it, the music has lured you in movement, without you realising it?  A finger tapping, your hips swaying. There is a dance inside each and every one of us that is uniquely our own, waiting to be expressed. So whether you are a first timer, or a passionate dance addict, come let’s dance! You can’t get this practice wrong – it’s your way of moving in the moment. Cost: £20

Saturday 8 June 19.00-21.30 Greek Night! Music and Dance from the Greek Islands
with Judy Hammond BEd ANATD MSTAT, teacher of the Alexander Technique, movement and dance. Traditional Greek island music is real soul food, full of passion, yearning and exuberance. And as well as being huge fun recent research has found that dancing in unison in a group is the single most powerful way to elevate mood and enhance feelings of wellbeing – and the most effective music to achieve this was found to be traditional Greek!  Cost: £20 includes a light supper and refreshments by Nourish.

T’ai Chi

Sunday 9 June 9.30 for 10.00-13.00 Calm Relaxed T’ai Chi Movement Calming the Mind – Improving Balance with Ian Deavin, a certified instructor of the Chinese Internal Arts Association and a member of the T’ai Chi Union of Great Britain. This is a lightly crafted workshop providing space and quietness to explore balance through inner stillness. Practising the relaxed movements of T’ai Chi over a gently paced three hours gives us the opportunity to take time to observe the sensations in our body – and notice how they affect how we move – while providing load-bearing exercise to strengthen our body structure. EFT

Sunday 16 June 9.30 for 10.00-13.00 EFT – Fears and Phobias Workshop with Tanya Lovett MA (Oxon), MSc, RN (Mental Health), who has worked in mental health services for 25 years and is an Advanced EFT Practitioner.  Do spiders scare you?  Do enclosed spaces make you panic?  What about heights?  Or frogs?  EFT is brilliant for reducing the emotional impact of fears and phobias; why not give it a try? Yoga

Sunday 16 June 15.30-16.30 Family Yoga with Lydia Challis. Based on our popular YogiMe class, these family yoga sessions (suitable for all ages) are a lovely way to connect and spend time together as a family.  The sessions combine stories, song and yoga poses and finish with time to relax and enjoy a calm space together with your children. (Not suitable for children under 2 1/2 yrs.)  Cost: £5 per person – free space for under 3’s

 

 

The Chinese Five Elements

Sunday, 16 June 9.30 for 10.00-13.00 Move and Embody the Chinese Five Elements :METAL  with Doe Warnes, Shiatsu massage and movement therapist/anatomy and physiology teacher.  METAL provides the body/mind with boundaries, and influences our connection to nature. This workshop combines the fascinating philosophy of the Chinese five elements and the natural wisdom of the body with your anatomy. Through gentle movement, indoors and outdoors, you will explore intuitive connections between yourself and nature. Summer Solstice

Sunday 23 June 19.00-20.15 Summer Solstice Sound Bath with Pam Mullett – Gong, Reiki and Reiki Drumming Practitioner and Jurek Dabrowski – Gong Practitioner and Homeopath.  Join us as we celebrate the Summer Solstice. We invite you to journey with sound as we play our gongs, singing bowls and other instruments. Move and Embody the Chinese Five Elements

Movement

Sunday 21 July 9.30 for 10.00-16.30 Resistance Renaissance with Judy Hammond BEd ANATD MSTAT, teacher of the Alexander Technique, movement and dance. There is a resurgence of interest in the use of resistance bands in movement and fitness classes.  Judy Hammond, teacher of Alexander Technique and creator of our Positive Movement programme, has developed powerful ways of using them to enhance muscle tone without sacrificing good alignment or freedom in the neck/shoulders! The work is fun, interesting and very safe – you will come away with a repertoire of highly effective movements to practise at home plus sound principles to apply to the use of bands/fitness equipment in class or at the gym. Mindfulness

Sunday 21 July 14.30-16.30 Mindfulness for Mental WellbeingFinding Peace in a Frantic World with Dr Neelam Taneja and Karima Tasker. This taster session to our 3 ½ day Autumn Term programme is suitable for adults who are seeking additional strategies and effective approaches for sustaining optimal mental health. The practice-focussed sessions draw on the core principles of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) as developed by Professor Mark Williams of Oxford University and colleagues from the Universities of Cambridge and Toronto.

Meditation

Sunday 28 July 14.30-17.30 Finding Stillness, Silence and Space with Sarah O’Connor Senior BWY Teacher and Director of MindFlow Yoga Teacher Training.These workshops look at practices for developing our connection to the already existing stillness, silence and space within us, that rests at our heart centre. The practices of pranayama, mantra and meditation techniques from Tibetan Bön Buddhism teach us how to release our ego attachments of emotions such as fear,  inadequacy, lack of confidence, anger, resentment and other negative emotional habits. What is left is space and within this space is joy, our true nature.  Cost: £35 per workshop (includes refreshments)

Ian’s workshop will introduce beginners to the simple ideas underlying this popular but little understood art. Longer term practitioners can expect to be helped on their path and perhaps achieve further insights on their own developmental journey.  Cost: £35 includes refreshments

 

AUGUST

Retreat

Monday, 5 August 11.00-15.00 Silent Retreat with Dr Neelam Taneja PhD, Member IAYT, Life Fellow RSM.  The magic of silence can take us to an inner sacred space that we can return to again and again using the principles of Mindfulness Meditation. Read some of our testimonials from Neelam’s other retreats.  Bring your own lunch. Nourish Café will be open if you wish to purchase your lunch. Refreshments will be provided.  Cost: By donation (all donations will go to support our charitable work to fund young people’s Mindfulness programmes).

Monday, 12 August 14.00-16.30 Magical Melodies – Blasts from the Past with Helen King. Sing along to well loved and known songs from the past. In this informal workshop, we will revisit favourite songs in a relaxed and gentle environment.  Listen, and join in with songs and activities. Cost: £15 which includes refreshments and song sheets.

 

Yoga

Saturday 17 August 09:00-13:00 Inversion Workshop with Brendan Murphy. Inversions, in Yoga, are where you turn yourself upside down. This workshop will teach you how to do this in various different ways.  Cost: £50 includes brunch by Nourish. 

 

 

 

 

 

Pilates

Saturday 17 August 10.00-11.30  Introduction to Pilates with Amanda Brosnan. This workshop will introduce you to the basic skills and principles which form the foundation of the Pilates method and which are essential to the effective performance of its exercises.  Cost: £15

 

Drama

Saturday 17 August 10.00-13.00 Drama Development Workshop with Emma Love.  A fun and informal workshop for those with either a desire to dip their toe in the water or to challenge themselves by progressing their acting skills in a non-pressurised environment.  We will explore fun drama games and exercises as well as acting techniques along with simple movement to a musical number.  Previous experience not essential.  Cost: £30.

Yoga

Sunday 18 August 11.00-14.00 Family YogiMe Summer Tea Party with Lydia Challis.  Yoga, games, guided meditation and live music to favourite Yoga songs.  Bring the family and a picnic.  (Not suitable for children under 2 1/2 yrs.)   Cost: £10 per person or £35 per family of 4.
