Workshops and Retreats

Workshops – whether ½ or full day – offer an introduction to a subject or serve as a means of deepening one’s skills and knowledge without the commitment required by a weekly class.  Along with retreats, they can provide oases of peace within the framework of our busy and frequently pressured lives.  We hope many of you will join us on these very special journeys of discovery.

Please note that bookings and payments for all workshops and retreats must be made by 1pm on the Friday before the workshop or retreat.

Saturday, 23 March 13.00 for 13.30-17.00 Creative Voice and Song with Mel Collavo, Yoga teacher with a Diploma in Transformational Voice Therapy for Groups, and Cheryl Smale, a lead vocalist who runs Heartsounds Women’s Singing Circle.  This workshop is suitable for anyone wanting to develop their confidence, discover their unique sounds and unlock their vocal potential. EFT

Saturday, 30 March 14.00 for 14.30-17.00 Raise Your Self-Esteem Using EFT with Tanya Lovett MA (Oxon), MSc, RN (Mental Health), who has worked in mental health services for 25 years and is an Advanced EFT Practitioner.  Are you your own worst critic? Do you continually compare yourself with others? Spend an afternoon freeing yourself from the blocks that hold you back and limit you. Saturday, 30 March 13.30 for 14.00-17.00 Mindfulness – Cultivating Forgiveness with Dr Neelam Taneja PhD, Member IAYT, Life Fellow RSM

Forgiveness can be difficult – especially when we have been hurt, when we feel anger or resentment or when we are left with guilt or shame. This mindfulness-based workshop will approach the subject from a contemplative and scientific perspective, and will be of interest to all who seek to become more forgiving and compassionate.

Come and bathe in wonderful waves of sound as we play our high quality gongs, singing bowls and other instruments – a fabulous way to de-stress that leaves you feeling calm, yet energised and ‘in-tune.  Sound Baths are not recommended during the first and last three months of pregnancy, if you have a pacemaker or metal implants or experience epilepsy or other types of seizures, have a sound sensitive condition such as Labrynthitus or Meniers Disease. Voice

A Workshop for Women

Sunday, 7 April 9.30 for 10.00-16.30 A Workshop for Women with Judy Hammond Bed ANATD MSTAT, teacher of the Alexander Technique, movement and dance.  Join us for a relaxing, informative day where you will learn how to maintain and improve the health and tone of the pelvic floor – which is vital for physical and emotional wellbeing. We will practise safe, gentle, effective versions of the classic pelvic floor exercises and do essential work on refining the way we use our spines and feet – both of which have a major effect on pelvic floor function.

This hilarious and fun workshop will use Laughter Yoga techniques to focus on communication and self-understanding. Mindfulness

Sunday 28 April 10.00-13.00 Three-Step Breathing Space with Dr Neelam Taneja PhD, Member IAYT, Life Fellow RSM.  As useful at home and at work as in purely social situations, this powerful technique is a gift you owe to yourself! The ability to create an oasis of inner calm wherever you are gives you space to think, to temporarily ‘stop the train’ and to profoundly nourish your spirit. Although the “Breathing Space” is a tool derived from longer Mindfulness programmes, no prior experience of either Mindfulness or Meditation is a prerequisite for this workshop. Monday 13 May 10.00-12.00 Anxiety in Adolescence with Rachel Lambie and Vivien Ofstedahl of North Herts Emotional Support in Schools Service (NESSie). This forum is designed to give parents & carers an opportunity to explore the causes of anxiety in young people and will include strategies for managing stress relating to exams, relationships and social media. Sunday 19 May 14.00 for 14.30-17.30 Finding Stillness, Silence and Space with Sarah O’Connor Senior BWY Teacher and Director of MindFlow Yoga Teacher Training.These workshops look at practices for developing our connection to the already existing stillness, silence and space within us, that rests at our heart centre. The practices of pranayama, mantra and meditation techniques from Tibetan Bön Buddhism teach us how to release our ego attachments of emotions such as fear,  inadequacy, lack of confidence, anger, resentment and other negative emotional habits. What is left is space and within this space is joy, our true nature.  Cost: £35 per workshop (includes refreshments)

T’ai Chi

Sunday 9 June 9.30 for 10.00-13.00 Calm Relaxed T’ai Chi Movement Calming the Mind – Improving Balance with Ian Deavin, a certified instructor of the Chinese Internal Arts Association and a member of the T’ai Chi Union of Great Britain. This is a lightly crafted workshop providing space and quietness to explore balance through inner stillness. Sunday 21 July 9.30 for 10.00-16.30 Resistance Renaissance with Judy Hammond Bed ANATD MSTAT, teacher of the Alexander Technique, movement and dance. There is a resurgence of interest in the use of resistance bands in movement and fitness classes.  Judy Hammond, teacher of Alexander Technique and creator of our Positive Movement programme, has developed powerful ways of using them to enhance muscle tone without sacrificing good alignment or freedom in the neck/shoulders! The work is fun, interesting and very safe – you will come away with a repertoire of highly effective movements to practise at home plus sound principles to apply to the use of bands/fitness equipment in class or at the gym. Cost: £65 includes Nourish lunch and refreshments.
