Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) – 9 week course at the Letchworth Centre for Healthy Living
If you are feeling disconnected from your life – if you want to spend less time being hijacked by the stresses and strains of work, home, family, or health – if you want to learn to live more fully in the present moment – and you are willing to commit yourself to spending an hour a day working on this – then this well-established and tried-and-tested class can give you the tools to change your life. We can all benefit from MBSR training: we all long to be centred and at ease with our lives.
Whilst it has its roots in Buddhist meditation, the term as it is used today refers to a series of well researched techniques largely based upon an 8-week Mindfulness programme developed in the
1980’s in America. That programme, called Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction or MBSR, has
been run continuously at the Letchworth Centre since 2003. Research over these three decades
has shown that people who complete the MBSR course report:
- Being better able to relax
- Being less distressed by physical and psychological symptoms
- Reduced pain levels and an enhanced ability to cope with chronic pain
- Reduced anxiety and depression
- Improved concentration and memory
- Better sleep
- Greater energy and enthusiasm for life
- Improved self-esteem
Research also suggests that mindfulness strengthens the immune system and develops areas of the brain associated with wellbeing.
Please check dates and make sure that you can attend all the sessions. All students must attend the orientation session which is the first class.
A £20 administration payment will be retained by the Letchworth Centre if after the orientation session it is decided that the course is not appropriate for you.
