Community

Partnering other local charities and community groups…

All hubs have been paused during the COVID pandemic.  Growing People, however, continues to open and to support its clients in a COVID-secure way.

Increasingly, we work with other local charities and groups to help deliver services to their users.  Such partnerships include:

Hertswise holds weekly ‘hub’ sessions at the Centre on Wednesdays from 2-4pm which offer fun activities, support, information and respite.  Hertswise is a county-wide service which helps people with dementia, low level memory loss or mild cognitive impairment (along with their families, carers and friends.  For more information, visit https://hertsindependentliving.org/hertswise

New Leaf Wellbeing College runs free wellbeing courses this autumn at the Centre for anyone on a journey of recovery. Combining theory with practical advice and guidance, the sessions provide both encouragement and an opportunity for reflection.  For more information, visit http://www.newleafcollege.co.uk

Growing People is a small charity which has its base at the Centre and cares lovingly for our grounds and flower beds.  It uses horticultural therapy to support people who are recovering from serious mental health issues. For more information visit www.growing-people.org.uk

North Herts Emotional Support in Schools Service (NESSie) provides emotional support for children, young people and their parents.  They run regular Parent Forums in partnership with the Centre.

Delivering Mindfulness in Schools

The Centre is committed to furthering the introduction of Mindfulness techniques in schools. To this end, we have trained teachers and support staff in many local schools.

Positive Movement is a fun, effective, gentle activity programme which combines the methods of the Alexander Technique with those of Adaptive Yoga and Mindfulness – designed specifically for older people with mobility problems or who are living with long-term conditions.
